Friends of DARE Network is currently organizing the 3^rd Annual Shakestail Dog Festival, a festival that celebrates the unique bond between people and their pets.  The first two Shakestail Dog Festivals were held indoors at the Stratford Agriplex, but this year we are heading to the great outdoors, south of Dublin.  This venue will give us expanded space for additional vendors and larger demonstration areas.   It will also reach a wider audience in the rural areas outside Stratford and the cottage area of Lake Huron.   This year’s Shakestail Dog Festival will be held in the dog days of summer, on Sunday August 7. 

Friends of DARE Network is a local, not-for-profit organization that was formed in 2007 to financially assist DARE Network, a small Non-Government Organization (NGO) which operates on the Thai/Burma border.   The mandate of the DARE Network (no affiliation to the American “D.A.R.E.”) is to provide drug and alcohol treatment and prevention education to Burmese Refugees living in Refugee Camps along the Thai/Burma border.   Pam Rogers (a former Stratford resident who provides technical direction and support for the DARE Network in Thailand) will host the site of the Shakestail Dog Festival this year.

Friends of DARE Network needs your support in order to successfully launch our Fundraiser, the 3^rd Annual  Shakestail Dog Festival, as there are unavoidable expenses involved in organizing this fundraiser.  After expenses, all monies raised by the Shakestail Dog Festival will go directly to the Thai/Burma border and DARE Network.  As DARE Network is an audited NGO, their financial statements are available for public viewing on their website, darenetwork.com.

The first two festivals included contests for dogs and their owners such as “the softest dog” and “the cutest puppy”, a vendor’s area, a children’s play area and demonstrations of agility, high-level obedience, duck herding and puppy training.  Feedback from the previous events has been positive, with many participants willing to committ their time and resources again to see a bigger and better Shakestail Dog Festival for 2011.  We would like to thank all those who participated last year and who are prepared to participate again.
